Patient FAQs
Will I be asleep during the surgery?
We offer various levels of sedation, from local anesthesia to deep sedation (IV sedation), depending on the complexity of the procedure and your comfort level.
What is the recovery time for jaw surgery?
While initial healing takes 1-2 weeks, we use Virtual Surgical Planning to minimize surgical time, which often leads to a faster and more comfortable recovery compared to traditional methods.
Why do I need a 3D scan?
Standard X-rays are 2D. A 3D CBCT scan allows us to see the exact position of nerves and roots, which is critical for avoiding complications and ensuring surgical precision.
Can I go home the same day?
Most oral and maxillofacial procedures at DentiQ, including wisdom tooth surgery and minor jaw corrections, are performed as day-cases, allowing you to recover in the comfort of your home.
- If receiving IV sedation, do not eat or drink anything for 6-8 hours prior to your surgery.
- Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for a few hours post-surgery.
- Inform your surgeon about any supplements or blood-thinning medications you are currently taking.
- Use ice packs on the outside of your face for the first 24 hours to minimize swelling.
- Maintain a soft-food or liquid diet (smoothies, soups, mashed potatoes) as instructed.
- Keep your head elevated while sleeping for the first 2-3 nights to reduce inflammation.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 3-5 days to allow the surgical site to stabilize.
